In 1855, described himself as born Glenbervie c.1824 - the only possible birth recorded in Glenbervie between 1820 and 1830 is that of John, born 10 July 1824 and baptized 1 August 1824, son of JAMES ARBUTHNOT, labourer at Newbigging and his wife, JEAN née LAING; this marriage can not be found and there is no record of the family in the 1841 Glenbervie Census and James' death is not listed 1855-98. Born Kincardineshire 1826/7 per 1881 census. Died Westerton, Stracathro 18 February 1922. Farm servant and agricultural labourer. Married, 5 May 1853, JANE (otherwise JEAN) NIDDRIE McCROW (otherwise McCRAW and McCROWE) (born Benholm 1830/1; died Montrose 22 November 1894). |
