|Old parochial register entries of births, marriages and deaths really give insufficient information to initiate research: they give no clue as to age, place of birth or parentage and thus it is difficult to prove the relevance of any baptismal entries found. On the whole, the further back we go, the fewer details about individuals survive and the more frustrating research becomes. The lack of entries for Montrose 1615-73 suggests that either this generation of Arbuthnots came from outwith Montrose or that it was not yet common practice in Montrose to register the baptisms of one's children in the Old parochial registers.|
