The Oxford DNB includes a paragraph on Robert Arbuthnot of Haddo in its article on the Select Society, "an Edinburgh debating club for gifted and socially prominent members of the city's intellectual élite". His portrait is at Warthill. Married, 1759, Mary Urquhart (born 1745; died Bishop Sandford 14 May 1818; buried Edinburgh; her portrait is at Warthill), daughter of Captain John Urquhart of Craigstone & Cromarty and Jean Urquhart (died 1767), daughter of William Urquhart, 21st of Meldrum and Mary, née Forbes (see A.1.a. on Table D.).

The estate in Jamaica called the "Arbuthnot Estate" cannot have been named after him; it was after that estate that Arbuthnot House, Falkirk was named by Patrick Waugh 1839/40.

Sir Peter James Bottomley, MP. Born 30 July 1944. He was educated at a mixed comprehensive school in Washington DC, Westminster School and Trinity College, Cambridge. His previous careers have included lorry driving, industrial sales and industrial relations. He is an industrial economist. He has been Chairman of the Church of England Children’s Society and a trustee of Christian Aid. He founded Family Forum. He is on the executive of the UK branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. He has been a member of the Child Poverty Action Group and Transport House branch of the Transport and General Workers’ Union. He was President of the Conservative Trade Unionists from 1978 to 1980. She had been Parliamentary Private Secretary to Chris Patten and to Sir Geoffrey Howe at Education, Overseas Development and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. She was Co-Chairman of the Women's National Commission from January 1991 until April 1992.
