Thank you for visiting. Can you help please? I am looking for any and all information about
Major Derek Andre
Alton-Nagel of the Royal Horse Artillery. A superb rider by all accounts. Born 1919.
Died before 1989. (Not Derec Marie Alton-Nagle as previously thought) He was the
"Training Major" at the Northumbrian Universities Officer Training Corps
during the years 1964 - 1967; we do not know what his
actual full tenure of NUOTC service was, but he was certainly there both prior
to and after those years. He was extremely supportive and jolly, but, as befitted
his rank, certainly had a tough side. He must have found it difficult at
times dealing with 'unruly' university students and having to play 'second
fiddle' to a Commanding Officer who was a Durham University professor (Lt.
Col. Derek Bargrave-Weaver) who, though a pleasant enough fellow, was not of
the stuff of leaders. His nickname
for his wife was "Pooh". Son of Frederick
Alton-Nagel of Tennessee who married Alice nee Studdert (of the Family Studdert of Clonderlaw). She was related to the Studdert family which owned Bunratty Castle, Bunratty
which is near Kenmare, on the N18 on the Shannon Estuary in Co Clare. 6 1/2 miles from
Shannon airport.
There may be a Frederick Alton Nagel in the Florida death index 1980-89 ..... any
connection??
Oh and here is another Alton Nagel extracted from the Tampa Tribune of
13 March 2005:
NAGEL, Mark Borden, 69, of Land O'Lakes, Fla., passed away Saturday, March 5,
2005 in Dade City under the care of Hernando- Pasco Hospice after a short
illness. He was born February 8, 1936, in New Haven, Conn. to Wayn Alton Nagel
and Barbara Imogene Ulrich Nagel. He grew up in Milford, Conn., graduating from
Milford High School in 1954. He graduated from Millikin University in Decatur,
Ill., in 1958 and lived in Illinois for many years before he retired and settled
to Florida, where he spent his remaining years. He was a wonderful brother and
friend, and will be missed by all. He is survived by five children, Scott,
Neal, Susan, Peter and Paul; one brother, Chris Nagel; and two sisters, Leslie
Ann Stalker and Esther Brasmer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests
donations in his memory to Hernando-Pasco Hospice, 7066 Fort King Road,
Zephyrhills, FL 33541.
