Letters

To Brigadier-General Dirom

Plymouth Dock,  August 15 [1804]

I congratulate you most sincerely on your promotion, and I hope you may long enjoy all your good things in health and happiness.  It is not yet determined what they mean to do with our ship.  I think she must go into dock; but it is not certain whether that may be here or at Portsmouth.  Many thanks for your attention to Norwich [Norwich Duff 1792 - 1862, the writer's son who would fetch up as an admiral].  I hope, poor fellow, he will do well:  he has not much to look forward to but what he must make for himself.
