Letter dated Britannia, off Cape Spartel 6 November 1805
from Rear Admiral the Earl of Northesk to Mrs George Duff
Madam, It is with the
greatest grief I have to inform you, that my much-lamented and dear friend Captain Duff
fell in the action of the 21st, in the arms of victory, covered with glory. I well know
what you, his family, and relatives, must feel on this melancholy occasion. But my dear
Madam, the consideration of the sorrows of this life, and the glories of the next, is our
best support. |
