4. HUGH ARBUTHNOT, 9th of Arbuthnot. Of age by 26 May 1404. Died on or after 13 March 1446. Married Lady MARGARET KEITH (died 29 November 1419), daughter of Sir ROBERT KEITH of Dunnottar, Marischal of Scotland (d. before 20.7.1430). "Memories" gives her name as JANET but this conflicts with the "Missal" and "Antiques and Huftris Arbuthnotices Gentis Genealogia, Contracta et Continuata". It was he who slaughtered JOHN MELVILLE of Glenbervie, Sherriff of The Mearns in 1420.
aa. MARGARET ARBUTHNOT. Died at Arbuthnott Church 19 March 1486. Married ANDREW MENZIES, Provost of Aberdeen. They are the ancestors of the Pitfoddels family.
bb. ROBERT ARBUTHNOT, 10th of Arbuthnot. Died 21 February 1450. Laird 1446-1450. Married GILES OGILVY (died 4 May 1468), daughter of Sir WALTER OGILVY of Lintrathen, High Treasurer of Scotland.

CATHERINE ARBUTHNOT. Fl 1487. "Memories" says she married, before 3 June 1487, ALEXANDER GRAHAME, son of DAVID GRAHAME known as "Tutor of Morphie", but the "Missal" says that Alexander was Tutor of Morphie and married CHRISTIAN ARBUTHNOT.

(a) JOHN ARBUTHNOT, Senior, of Portertown in Kincardineshire and of Legasland in Angus. Died January 1573/4. Will recorded 4 February 1576. Witness to various deeds in 1553, 1563, 1586, etc. Married CHRISTIAN FRASER of Durris.

JAMES ARBUTHNOT. Believed to be identical with James Arbuthnot 1st of Lentusche and of Portertown, Keir, etc. Not mentioned in his father's will, though this is not unusual. For his descendants, see Table N.

ROBERT ARBUTHNOT. Believed to be identical to Robert Arbuthnot, "brother-german" of James Arbuthnot, 1st of Lentusche. Also believed to be identical to "Robert Arbuthnot of Rora". Robert, brother of Lentusche was certainly one of three brothers who migrated from the Mearns to Aberdeenshire in the 16th century, the other two being James himself and David of Long Seat. Fl 1587 and 1606. For his descendants see Table H.

JOHN ARBUTHNOT, Junior. Believed to be identical with John Arbuthnot in Ravenshaw, parish of Garvock, Kincardineshire, who married ISOBEL MURRAY, sister of JAMES MURRAY of Polmais. Will of John Arbuthnot "in Revinschaw" confirmed 27 July 1597. He died in April 1595. Among debts due to him at the time of his death are mentioned those of "David Arbuthnot in Langset, his brother," Robert Arbuthnot 1st in Fiddes and Mr Andrew Arbuthnot 2nd in Fiddes, his son, "James Arbuthnot of Lentusche, as principal, and John Arbuthnot in Portertown, his son, as cautioner," etc.

(ee) DAVID ARBUTHNOT. Believed to be identical with David Arbuthnot of Long Seat of Belhelvie who witnessed deeds in 1567-8 and 1573. In January 1603, David Arbuthnot in Long Seat brings an action against certain persons "in Pottertoun". Fl 1607.
(b) JAMES ARBUTHNOT of Little Fiddes. Fl 1558, 1569, 1576, being mentioned in the latter year in his brother John's will, recorded 4th February.
